About Maria

Maria Murczek is a visual artist who primarily practices photography, video, and graphic design. A born and raised Chicagoan, Maria has been striving to express her creativity since youth. Her interest in photography began in high school, where she became an award-winning Photo and Online Editor of Lane Tech High School's The Warrior, a student-staffed newspaper. Her passion for photography grew into a career after attending Marwen, an extracurricular art program in River North. In 2014, Maria earned her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Photography at Columbia College Chicago. Her art practice focuses on blending Chicago history and architecture through her careful photographic studies and research. She is classically trained in conventional photography and enjoys teaching nineteenth century and darkroom processes to city youth at nonprofits and schools. Aside from her personal endeavors, Maria has worked in the fields of architecture, real estate, and construction. She is currently employed as a full-time high school art teacher, a freelance photographer, and photo assistant.
